An ancient art method is relived in Lola Guhl art-to-wear clothing called chapan. The natural fiber clothing created from hand-woven ikat tells the story of a terra incognita to a modern world. Uzbek atlas (all silk Ikat) and Uzbek adras (a silk/cotton ikat) both crafted by artisans who have resurrected knowledge from nineteenth century Turkestan are used to produce a variety of patterns. A collection of antique ikat textiles - the spectacular Rau Collection of historical robes inspired some designs while other designs can be traced to Sogdian merchants who carried silks and other goods across the silk trade route. Through joint collaborations between fiber arts workshops located in Ferghana and the Lola Guhl atelier, a modern thread connects the collector to the ancient Silk Road.
